Hear small businesses speak out about new regulations (Google E-Mail)

Post by funnyinterestingcool » Tue Dec 14, 2021 8:10 pm

As we recently shared, Congress is considering regulations that could have unintended consequences for your business–affecting the digital tools you and many businesses have relied on to adapt, recover and reach new customers throughout the pandemic.

If passed, these regulations could disrupt a range of tools that you use to reach customers. For example, free Business Profiles may no longer be available on Google Search and Maps if regulators say that this feature disadvantages other websites that provide business listings.

Google's public policy team is working with Congress to highlight how regulations like this could affect businesses like yours–and small businesses are beginning to speak up. For example, Branch Basics CEO Tim Murphy, who uses Google Ads to reach people searching for alternative cleaning products, has expressed concern that these regulations could cost him time and money; he has encouraged Congress to "consider how changing the digital marketplace could affect small businesses." You can read other business owners' perspectives on the Connected Commerce Council's website.

As the legislation moves forward, we'll share important updates about how, together, we can advocate for the millions of American businesses like yours that drive our economy. We'll also continue to engage with policymakers on the unintended consequences of these proposals.
